Coffee quality, explained.

A coffee’s value can come from its sensory character, origin and how it was produced. The SCA’s approach considers these attributes together.

How the SCA evaluates coffee

The SCA’s Coffee Value Assessment brings together physical, descriptive, affective and extrinsic assessments. It separates sensory description from a taster’s judgement of quality.

Know where it comes from.

Java, Pacamara, Mandela and La Esperanza come from Café Granja La Esperanza in Colombia. Our CO₂-decaffeinated coffee is sourced separately from Tolima. Open the coffee details to see the origin and processing for each profile.

A clear place on your menu.

Choose light-roasted Java for fruit and tea-like character in filter or espresso. Compare the medium-roasted espresso profiles by their mouthfeel, sweetness and aftertaste. Keep a dedicated decaf alongside your regular selection.

Before you apply.

The essentials for choosing and ordering.

How do I choose the right profile?

Start with the drinks you serve. Java is recommended for filter and espresso; Pacamara, Mandela, La Esperanza and Decaf for espresso. Compare the tasting notes and mouthfeel, then refine the recipe with your own equipment.

Is there a minimum order?

No. Order from one 1 kg bag, in any mix of our five coffees. Tea and matcha have no minimum either.

Which tea and matcha packs can I resell?

You can resell the 100 g tea packs and 50 g matcha pouches at your counter. The 500 g tea and 200 g matcha packs are for use behind your counter, not for resale.

When will my coffee arrive?

After payment, your order is handed to DHL after five working days. Your coffee is roasted in that time. Transit time is additional.
