Service Description

The Brewing Intermediate course builds on the Foundation level curriculum. Extraction % and brew strength % are measured and charted using the Coffee brewing control chart and a refractometer. You will learn to apply all brewing parameters, using suitable water. The Brewing Intermediate course covers the following topics: History of brewing research from 1952 till today The brewing process: wetting, hydrolysis & extraction The ideal extraction and strength range, by navigating the Coffee brewing control chart Strength measuring methods and usage of a refractometer Water to coffee ratio, grind size, brew time, water temperature, agitation, filtration method and roast level Water quality Cold brew Grinding, grinder & burr types, grind analysis. ➔ Requirements SCA CSP Introduction to coffee, Brewing Foundation & Sensory Skills Foundation are highly recommended. The Brewing Intermediate level student should have experience with coffee brewing. ➔ Certification The exam consists of a series of practical tests/exams and a written exam. The written exam consists of 35 questions with a pass rate of 70% required. The Practical exam consists of the following tests: Extraction % Taste Test Strength % Taste Test Correct Brew Test Gold Cup Trouble Shooting Test The practical exam takes 30 minutes with a 70% pass rate. After passing the exam you will be awarded the SCA CSP Brewing Intermediate certificate and earn 10 points towards your coffee diploma. ➔ The fee for this course ➔ Practical Maximum of six people on this course.
